Listing Category:
Short Description:
We are an autonomous mutual aid initiative. We are not a non-profit, or fiscally sponsored. None of our organizers are paid for their work. We are recipient led, meaning the people who receive funds decide through consensus how funds are allocated. Our recipients are Queer, Transgender, Indigenous People Of Color (QTIPOC) living in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, or rural North Carolina. All recipients are under/unemployed due to COVID-19 and are not approved for the weekly federal pandemic unemployment benefit. Most have never received a stimulus check, and face barriers to accessing safety net services. So every month, we ask the community for funds on social media + send those funds to our recipients so they can survive. Mostly through Paypal, Venmo and Cashapp. We figure out other ways when folks don't have bank accounts. Funds are given with zero strings attached.
